Sustainability issues have gained significant prominence in recent years due to global population growth and related consumption putting increasing pressure on the planet’s ecosystems and natural resources. Fossil fuel use has also continued to grow, despite the clear evidence of how the resulting carbon emissions will bring dire consequences due to climate change.

As we transition to a future beyond fossils, reducing consumption and waste, and using and reusing resources more efficiently are critical actions we need to take to achieve sustainable outcomes. But that alone is not enough. The world also needs sustainable resource solutions that can provide new raw materials in a sustainable way.

Fibres for the future

We believe that sustainably managed forests and plantations, wood-based products, and low-carbon electricity, all play a role in moving towards this new future. Pulp and the residues and side streams from pulp production are an essential part of a bioeconomy. They are critical in the process of finding solutions that both replace fossil fuels and move our activities to a system that uses and re-uses resources in the most efficient way possible.
