(UPM, Paso de los Toros, 5th of December 2022 11:00 GMT-3) With a focus on the start-up of its new pulp mill in the department of Durazno in central Uruguay, UPM is starting to receive chemical supplies on the Paso de los Toros mill site. Shipments from UPM’s new pulp terminal in the port of Montevideo will begin this week in order to store on-site necessary supplies for preparatory activities in the different areas of the pulp production process. The chemicals that the UPM Paso de los Toros mill will receive are widely used in Uruguayan industry and move along national routes on a daily basis.
As the testing phase progresses, the Paso de los Toros pulp mill is moving into a pre-operation stage that requires the arrival of supplies, starting in this case with deliveries of fuel oil which will be gradually transported in trucks designed for this purpose. These supplies arrived some weeks ago in ships at UPM's pulp terminal in the port of Montevideo, which is the base of UPM’s logistics operations in Uruguay.
All the tests to be carried out in this process have been approved by relevant authorities within the framework of the mill’s Environmental Management Plan.
